19th ANNUAL GLASHOFF ART FESTIVAL
Saturday June 6th was the most amazing art festival held at the Suisun Valley ranch of Phillip and Chad Glashoff. Invited by a good friend, we arrived early and were delighted and amazed at all the sculptures thru-out the ranch property. There must be hundreds of them all created by Phillip Glashoff and also his son Chad who has become a renowned artist in his own rite. Phillip, besides being a rancher and after several years of agricultural studies, Phillip realized his true passion for art thru sculpting. With a wealth of materials at hand at his ranch, he generated the whimsical sculptures that have brought Phillip attention from around the world. Art appreciators find there is good will and humor in each piece.
Besides Phillip's and Chad's artwork, there were 26 other very talented exhibitors of water color, acrylic and oil paintings, jewelry, beautiful ceramics, a jade artist, watercolor fused glass, painted woods. There was so much to see.
One of our favorites was Elinor Herford. Elinor has worked as a commercial welder for much of her career and is currently a metal art sculptress. Her considerable expertise as a welder and metal fabricator have found new expression in her personal metal sculptures and artwork which she creates in her studio in Fairfield. Elinor says, "I love creating organic forms from materials that are more often employed as matrices and grids. I love creating textures and patinas that make each piece unique". Her creations are absolutely beautiful and, in fact, we have commissioned her to make us a custom piece for our home. We are so excited.
Lunch was available by Buckhorn Catering which offered a farm fresh menu of delicious Char Roasted Tri Tip, Pull Pork, Charbroiled Chicken, Granny Smith Apple Coleslaw, Ranch Beans. Delicious!
Wines tastings were from Mangles Vineyards and Wooden Valley Winery. All of the art, food and wine/beer blended so beautifully with music by Boca do Rio, Brazilian Space Funk music. Boca do Rio has evolved into a multi-layered electro-fund party boat with a sound that is fluid and edgy, adaptable and free.
The art works, the food, the wine, and the music were all fantastic! And, with the event happening in early June, we were so fortunate that the weather was not too hot and we were cooled by a gentle early summer breeze.
